Who am I and why do I run this website?
I’m Paul Shoemaker and I run this website and blog. I’m an avid hiker, a husband to a wonderful woman (Denise), father to three great sons (Spencer, Nathaniel, and Justin), a Registered Nurse and a lover of life. I also love bicycling, backpacking and spending time with my family.
In 2006, I took a big leap of faith and decided to pursue my dream of working in healthcare. I was always afraid I couldn’t handle the math and science classes but a series of life-awakening events pushed me off the fence and I took the plunge into nursing school and never looked back.

Hike Tri-Cities was born a few years ago when I realized my general blog had several hiking entries and I decided to focus on hiking. After more than 100,000 visitors, I am LOVING the chance to make a difference in people’s lives!
