A careless homeowner is reportedly to blame for a fire that blackened a large patch of brush on the northeast end of Red Mountain.
Smoke was thick and residents could see and smell the fumes as firefighters worked quickly to put out the fire, preventing damage to any structures.
KNDU TV reports a resident was welding and sparked the fire. Dry conditions made for a tinder box of fuel that spread fast. Fire crews were able to extinguish the fire within a couple of hours but not before it left a black patch visible across the Tri-Cities estimated between 150 and 300 acres.
Hopefully the ground will recover quickly like Flattop Mountain has after last year’s careless fireworks caused fire around the 4th of July.
