It was a great day for a hike on Candy Mountain today. The Carey’s Balsamroot is fading but other flowers are taking its place. Like this Piper’s Daisy with its bright yellow, vibrant coloring. Don’t forget to check our wildflower page for more identification.
Slender Hawksbeard is also in full bloom all over the Columbia Basin, and Yarrow is hard to miss. Another beautiful sight is the butterflies which flutter around the trails for a short time every year. They are out again right now and you can probably see them for the next week or so. I haven’t seen any snakes out but hike carefully and be alert. Staying in the middle of the trail and watching your step is the best prevention. You can also check this post for more snake safety tips. Hope to see you on the trail!
