Okay, maybe I’m a little naive. The other day, I was getting ready for a hike out at the Juniper Dunes Wilderness Area.
I was gathering my supplies: fanny pack, water, snacks, boots, socks, etc. Then, I remembered I had a pair of used gators that I had never tried because I always forgot I had them.
I was anticipating having to pick cheat grass out of my socks and shoes throughout the day, especially because it was late summer and the grasses are mostly dried and brittle.
I wondered if the gators might help with this pesky problem so I strapped them on when I got there and gave them a test.
At the end of the day, I was smiling at my discovery (I probably don’t deserve much credit, it just takes me a while to catch on!).
I didn’t have a single piece of cheatgrass to pick from my socks or shoes. The tight weave on the gators didn’t attract any hitchhikers either.
An added bonus was it kept the sand out! I hiked comfortably all day. When we got back to the truck, all I had was a few grains of sand on my heels, not the usual pouring out routine that you usually find in sandy terrain!
