I was hoping for some white stuff (sorry snow haters) and my hopes came true. I’ve hiked a white Badger Mountain before and decided I would hike it this morning.
The trail wasn’t slippery as the snow was fresh and not compacted as traffic was pretty much nonexistent. Driving up to Trailhead Park was a little slick but I made it okay.
The hike was very peaceful. There was some wind and snow but a good hat, neck wrap and gloves made it comfortable.
My lesson from this hike came from the birds I saw on the trail. They were hunkered down in the snow for warmth and insulation, stirring only when I got close.
The snow highlighted the sagebrush and plants. It snowed the whole hike so the cloud cover obscured the sunrise. My footprints from the hike up were mostly filled in by the time I was on my way back down.I saw no other hikers this morning (not a big surprise) until I got back to Trailhead Park and one hiker with hiking poles was just starting up the hill. The snow did slow my time to the top by about 4 minutes but it was a welcome accomplishment and my boots worked well, keeping my feet warm and dry.
