I spotted this geological feature when I was on top of the Wallula Gap Hike. I knew the Twin Sisters would be neat to see up close so I finally took a short drive and an easy hike to see some exquisite examples of our channeled scablands area.
It’s a pretty easy hike and access is easy as well. I drove there in the morning and hiked up through the small canyon, sagebrush and sand. I saw some familiar wildflowers and spotted this little, delicate pink beauty,
The flower was sitting in the perfect place to get a picture with the Twin Sisters in the background. It was a little windy but that is not unusual with the wind-tunnel effect of the Wallula Gap. I climbed up to the base of the Twin Sisters and got some nice pictures. It was nice and quiet and didn’t take too long to see some of the history of our Columbia Basin landscape.
