It was a beautiful morning to hike Badger Mountain. My wife told me the night before she was heading up so I decided I would too. It was grey and dark down in town so I was hoping for a better outlook up on Badger.
I headed for the Skyline Trailhead and started hiking in the dark. I could see right away I would be above the fog and I was excited to see some kind of sunrise
As I hiked “Above the Fog”, I thought about how we sometimes live our lives in a fog and how we need focus, clarity and balance to feel more complete and at peace.
As I hiked, I listened to some of my favorite podcasts but my thoughts were more on the crisp morning beauty of being above the fog. My mind was clear and I pondered life and how we can pull ourselves up above the fog that can be the drudgery of a wandering life.
I thought of how we can be at peace with our situations if we have balance and pay attention to growth and strength in the many areas of life, making sure we don’t neglect any of them.
Those areas are: family, spiritual, mental, vocational, physical and monetary. If we base all our efforts on any one of these areas and then we have a major crisis in that area, our life spirals downward in turmoil. If we have balance between these different areas, a crisis in any one area may be only a bump in the road as we have strength in the other areas to buoy us up and the bump in the road resolves without put our lives in a tailspin.
As I hiked in the clear air, above the fog on Badger Mountain, I realized how important it is to have balance to help us weather the little fog or storms in our life, a life that can bring true joy and happiness.
