Lightning stormed through the Columbia Basin this morning.
One strike apparently hit Badger Mountain and sparked a fire. The fire burned along the Canyon Trail and up to the ridgeline.
The thunder and lightning were followed by a downpour that apparently doused the Badger Mountain fire and left a large black patch. Fire crews and trucks were patrolling the borders of the fire around 11 a.m. and there was no visible smoke left.
Glad our beloved mountain didn’t burn up and more importantly nobody was hurt!
It will be interesting to see the natural evolution of this black patch of land as the vegetation recovers and regrows in response to the stress of fire.
