With the warm days we’ve had the last week and a half, the colors on Badger are starting to turn from the greens of spring to the browns, tans and earth tones of summer. The heat can also sap your strength a bit so I find it is very pleasant to hike early in the morning.
The bonus is you get to see some beautiful sunrises if you’re up early enough. Even though the native grasses are browning, there are still plenty of wildflowers. I saw some pretty yellows along the trail: Slender hawksbeard, fiddleneck tarweed and yarrow. The other benefit of hiking early is avoiding the crowds.
