There seems to be an unusually large number of “presents” left along the trail on Badger Mountain. There are plenty of unpackaged “presents”.
Some of them are nicely wrapped but left trailside. Now, you may think this is kind of picky but it sure messes up the beauty of our local trails when dog owners don’t take care of their animals. You may know that there is some history of dog responsibility on hiketricities.com. I have nothing against dogs, they are wonderful companions. The problem is often their owners!
You may have seen previous posts on owners who don’t keep their dogs controlled (you can click the link). It is legal to have dogs on the trails but they are required to be leashed or under control. Part of being under control is taking care of the dog’s excrement. Dog owners must bring their own doodoo bags and pickup after their dogs.
Then, (and it seems like some people are having a problem with this) dispose of it correctly. This means take it to a garbage can, don’t leave it along the trail for some good samaritan to clean up after your dog! I saw several examples of this lack of responsibility on my Badger Mountain experience today. There was a big pile of bags right at the trail head!
Come on, if you have decided to own a dog, it comes with responsibilities. If you can’t take these responsibilities, you probably should find someone who can.
Thanks for being a good example, share with friends to help get the word out! Paul
