I was craving a little exercise after a long day at work so I decided to head for Badger Mountain and the Canyon Trail. I was hoping to get up for the sunset which was around 8:11 but I couldn’t make it with my work schedule. I figured I would still get a great night-time view from the top and hopefully some scenic vistas, I was right!
I got to the top in about 25 minutes, a little slow for me, I need to work on that. There were several people heading down as I was going up. I imagined they already enjoyed the sunset. At the top, I decided to use a long exposure on my camera with a tripod to get some shots.I used my gorilla pod and attached it to the yellow hiking sign at the top and got the above shot. Then, I fiddled with some shutter speed settings and took the shot below with the moon shining over Kennewick and Pasco.
I really enjoy taking pictures and playing with the camera settings to get the desired effects. On my way back down, I saw a few people still heading up for the moonlight hike. I also spotted another picture I wanted to try. I could faintly make out a cloud in the sky over Pasco and thought the cars crossing the twin bridges on I-182 would make some nice trails on a long exposure so I snapped the picture below.
I think the actual full moon is tonight so it may be another great night for an evening hike. Hope you have the chance to get out and enjoy it.
