The Recent rainy days left me frustrated by keeping me inside. I decided I wasn’t going to let a little moisture get in my way of getting outdoors.
I headed for Badger Mountain because my wife had been up there with a friend earlier in the day and said she saw a beautiful, colorful bush. I had to see it for myself.
I also had some other bonuses! Fortunately, the rain slowed and was nearly stopped by the time I reached the top by taking the Canyon Trail.
The view from the top was a little hazy with the rain but I headed back down the Sagebrush Trailto make a full loop. As I came off the top of the mountain trail, there was the beautiful bush my wife promised!
I looks like a sagebrush of some sort but I’m not sure of the identity. Please send me a note if you know what this is. I also need help with another beautiful yellow bush that is flowering like crazy on the hill right now. I saw this gem right along the trail.
I’m usually watching the ground as I hike because I see more plants and flowers. Fortunately I looked up long enough to spot a flock of pelicans flying through.
As I journeyed down the Sagebrush Trail, I saw some beautiful flowers, false yarrow and another bush with some beautiful purple blooms.
As I was nearly to the bottom, the rain started up again, I realized how all the beautiful colors we see on the mountain would be impossible without the moisture we receive each spring. I continued on down and spotted some beautiful birds with yellow markings flitting about the sagebrush. A nice finish to a damp hike! A beautiful day.
Did anyone get back to you on the plants? The pink bracts belong to Spiny Hopsage (Grayia spinosa), the next one with yellow flowers is likely rock buckwheat (Eriogonum sphaerocephalum – if not that species definitely in that genus), the purple flowers are Grayball sage (Salvia dorrii) and the yellow birds are American Goldfinch.
